Glossary of Photographic Distinctions

Below is a basic list of Photographic distinctions available from various Photographic organisations.

They are obtained either by entering competitions sponsored by the organisation or applying directly to the organisation, adhering to their specifications of what is necessary to obtain that distinction.

The requirements can change over time, so it is best to look at the relevant organisations website to see the current requirements and rules for any given distinction.

PAGB : Photographic Alliance of Great Britain, the 'umbrella' organisation for the regional federations/associations in GB. There are a number of awards for individual photographers, as follows -

  • BPAGB, Badge Award of the PAGB, the first level of award, judged on 7 pictures, with a standard of 'good club photography'

  • CPAGB, Credit Award of the PAGB, judged on 10 pictures, with a standard of 'good club photography'

What is the Project Support Group?

This group meets on a Sunday every other month to support members and other local photographers with their projects. The projects include those purely for personal satisfaction, RPS Distinctions, and PAGB Awards. Occasionally we invite an experienced judge to come along and advise us on our work. If you have any images you would like advice on, bring them along. Or just come along to see what other members are up to and view some great images.

The Project Support Group meets from 10am to approx 3:30pm, at Muscliff Community Centre. Bring your own lunch and your work, either prints or PDIs, for us to help with. We will aim to finish around 3:30pm, but may finish earlier if we have covered everyone's project. There is a charge of £5 to cover the cost of the hall and any fees for the judges, but this includes tea and coffee.
